(MA) Thesis: Psychology, culture and external manifestations
Exhibition: Beneath the Layer of Skin
Exploring the Depths of Introversion: Unveiling Society's notions of Invisibility through design research, interview and spatial experience design.
My final year thesis contains a 12,000-word hand-bound book, an installation and a film for the exhibition.
This project delves into the intricate world of introverts through a combination of in-depth verbal interviews and graphic communication. The goal is to shed light on the impact of societal perceptions of invisibility on human behavior and psychology. By examining personality differences between Asian and European cultures, the project aims to enhance understanding of introverts' social demands and psychological processes.

The captivating film serves as the exhibition's focal point, showcasing conversations and visual expressions from participants in graphic and text formats. Complemented by on-site installations, the film offers a comprehensive exploration of introversion and its impact on society.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the book 'BENEATH THE LAYER OF SKIN', which is based on my months-long interviews with introverted individuals in East Asia. The first half of the book reveals the emotional journey and portraits of the interviewees through simple presentation layout (with their original Chinese quotes preserved), while the second half reflects on the cultural connections between East Asia and Europe from my perspective as an introvert living in Europe, and concretely portrays these feelings. Additionally, the project explores the use of textiles to create stretchable spaces, conveying the emotions and mindsets of introverts, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of this often misunderstood group.
